The Robed Choir

At St Andrew’s the choir sings a mixture of traditional and modern hymns and anthems, usually in 4 part harmony.  The choir has a large repertoire from C13th to C21st.

The choir meets every Friday evening at the church to practice (except during the month of August).  Rehearsals are Fridays, 7:30 – 8:45 pm.

The choir sings at the following services:

  • 1st Sunday – 10.30am Eucharist
  • 2nd Sunday – 6.30pm Evensong (every other month)
  • 3rd Sunday – 10.30am Eucharist
  • 5th Sunday – 10.30am Eucharist

The choir welcomes new members, all ages from 11+ are welcome and the ability to sight-read music is not required!  Please contact the musical director, Paul Fortune, for more information.

In Sung Communion services, usually a setting (with congregational participation) is used, and often with a psalm (either responsorial or Anglican chant).    An anthem is sung, together with a communion motet on two Sundays of the month.  Gospel responses and alleluias are also sing, and there is occasionally an Introit.

The choir participates in RSCM events, and visits to other places of worship.

St Andrew’s Singers

A less formally constituted group, which sings in one or two parts on one Sunday morning per month (though members are welcome also on the third Sunday morning).

It sings for the informal family services, occasionally with instrumental accompaniment.   This group rehearses monthly, at 9.30am for one hour, usually on the first Saturday of the month.

The St Andrews Singers lead the hymns and usually sing a simple anthem at our all-age services.

The choir meets once a month on the third Saturday morning at the church at 9:30 a.m.

The choir sings at the following services:

  • 2nd Sunday – All Age Eucharist

The choir welcomes new members.

The Music Group

Launched back in September 2021, we help to lead the 10.30am Family Service on the 4th Sunday of each month.

The group has grown in number over the months and includes both singers and instrumentalists (guitars, flutes, violin, recorder, ukulele, saxophone, percussion and the Music Leader at the piano). It’s an informal group where people can come along and join us as and when they can, and we usually have a short practice in church on the Saturday morning before the Sunday service itself.

We sing and play a mixture of hymns and songs and the Music Leader leaves the group more or less to their own devices to add harmonies, descants, etc. as and when they feel is appropriate. This seems to work well, and the group has gelled together more and more at each service.

If anyone is interested in joining us, please contact the Music Leader, Christina Knowles.

You would be very welcome.
