The Robed Choir

At St Andrew’s the choir leads the music during the main Sunday Eucharist services and the monthly Evensong.  We meet every Friday evening 7.30 – 9pm at the church to practice (except during the month of August) and sing at the following services:

  • 1st Sunday – 10.30am Parish Eucharist
  • 2nd Sunday –  6.30pm Evensong
  • 3rd Sunday – 10.30am Parish Eucharist
  • 5th Sunday – 10.30am Parish Eucharist

In the Eucharist services, a sung setting (with congregational participation) is used, an anthem is sung, together with a communion motet.

Evensong features an anthem as well as an occasional introit plus a Psalm and Canticles sung to Anglican Chant.

The choir sings at the various Civic and other special services throughout the year, and makes occasional visits to other places of worship, primarily to our linked church at Tytherton Lucas.

Additionally most choristers take part in the 2nd Sunday All Age Eucharist as an un-robed choir, this being a slightly less formal service.

St Andrews is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music.

The choir welcomes new members, all ages from 11+ are welcome and the ability to sight-read music is not required!  If you would like to come along and see what we do and try us out, or would like further information, please contact the Musical Director, Paul Fortune (paulandmyra25@gmail.com)

The Music Group

Launched back in September 2021, we help to lead the 10.30am Family Service on the 4th Sunday of each month.

The group has grown in number over the months and includes both singers and instrumentalists (guitars, flutes, violin, recorder, ukulele, saxophone, percussion and the Music Leader at the piano). It’s an informal group where people can come along and join us as and when they can, and we usually have a short practice in church on the Saturday morning before the Sunday service itself.

We sing and play a mixture of hymns and songs and the Music Leader leaves the group more or less to their own devices to add harmonies, descants, etc. as and when they feel is appropriate. This seems to work well, and the group has gelled together more and more at each service.

If anyone is interested in joining us, please contact the Music Leader, Christina Knowles. You would be very welcome.
