St Andrew’s News 7th May

Dear friends,

Tomorrow, Friday 8th May, is the 75th anniversary of VE day, and the planned commemorations have of course had to be reduced to thinking and reflecting at home. We’re asked to say the following prayer together just before 11am and then keep 2 minutes silence, ending with the commendation.

Lord God our Father,
we pledge ourselves to serve you and all humankind, in the cause of peace,
for the relief of want and suffering,
and for the praise of your name.
Guide us by your Spirit;
give us wisdom;
give us courage;
give us hope;
and keep us faithful now and always.
Amen.

Silence

They shall grow not old as we who are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them

I will then toll the church bell 75 times and we might say the Lord’s prayer.

I’ve not specifically included any further prayers in the worship material for Sunday, but we might keep a shorter silence at 10am just before we start together.

Looking further ahead, here is a major challenge to everyone! You did so well with your Easter gardens – how about thinking of an Ascension and Pentecost garden?! I’ve no idea how that might be expressed (I don’t think we want teddy bears suspended from the ceiling, going up!) but I guess we might think along the lines of, “lifting our horizons,” or, “seeking the things that are above”. Any ideas? Do share them if you will, so that we can get our creative juices working!

Lots of love from

Rod x
